Integrated Test Prep

Unlike advising-only firms, ConnectPrep handles SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT preparation in-house — same team, same strategy. No coordination gaps between your advisor and your test prep tutor.

Regional Expertise

Deep familiarity with day and boarding schools across Fairfield County, Westchester, NYC, Long Island, and New Jersey. ConnectPrep knows the schools these families are applying to, and what each school values in an applicant.

Full-Cycle Accountability

ConnectPrep guides families through every stage — school research, test prep, essays, interviews, and decision day. One team, one strategy, clear milestones, and a single point of contact throughout.

Understanding Your Options

Day School or Boarding School? We Help You Decide.

Many families are weighing both options simultaneously. ConnectPrep advises across both tracks — often helping families build a list that spans both day and boarding schools depending on fit, geography, and academic goals.

Independent Day Schools

Day School Admissions

Day schools offer a rigorous private school education while students remain at home. Admissions is highly competitive, especially in markets like Fairfield County, Westchester, and NYC.

  • Strong local community and parent networks
  • Students live at home; greater family continuity
  • Often highly selective in top markets (CT, NY, NJ)
  • ISEE or SSAT required at most schools; TACHS/HSPT for Catholic schools
  • Application includes essays, teacher recommendations, and parent statement
  • Shadow days and campus visits are expected and evaluated
Schools we work with: Greens Farms Academy, King School, Kingswood Oxford, Sacred Heart Greenwich, Brunswick, Rye Country Day, Greenwich Country Day, Stanwich, Westover, Westminster, and more
Boarding Schools

Boarding School Admissions

Boarding schools provide a transformative residential experience — deeper academics, wider extracurricular opportunities, and a national peer network that shapes students for life.

  • Residential experience with strong peer and faculty bonds
  • Access to collegiate-level resources and athletics
  • National and international applicant pool — highly competitive
  • SSAT is required at most; some schools accept ISEE
  • Application includes student questionnaire articulating reason for boarding
  • Campus visit and in-person or virtual interview is standard
Schools we work with: Choate Rosemary Hall, Hotchkiss, Taft, Deerfield, Loomis Chaffee, Lawrenceville, Berkshire, Exeter, Andover, Kent, Groton, St. Paul's, Milton, and more

Admissions Timeline

When to Start — and What to Expect.

Most families applying for fall enrollment should begin the process in winter or spring of the prior year. Here's a general guide to the private and boarding school admissions calendar.

12–18 months out

Start School Research & Connect with ConnectPrep

Begin building your school list, researching fit, and starting SSAT/ISEE prep. Earlier preparation leads to stronger scores and a more considered school list. Ideal start point for most families.

Spring / Summer

School Visits & Test Registration

Schedule campus tours and open houses. Register for fall SSAT or ISEE test dates. Begin practicing with timed tests and section review. First draft of essays can begin in summer.

Fall (Sep–Nov)

Applications Open — Essays, Recommendations & Testing

Most independent school applications open in September. Request teacher recommendations early. Complete final SSAT or ISEE testing by November. Essay drafts should be in progress.

Nov–Jan 15

Application Deadline Window

Most boarding and day school deadlines fall between January 1 and January 15. All materials — essays, recommendations, test scores, and supplemental forms — must be submitted by this date.

Jan–Feb

Interviews

Most schools conduct in-person or virtual interviews between January and February. ConnectPrep conducts final mock interview sessions during this window to ensure students are fully prepared.

March 10

Notification Day — "March 10"

Most boarding schools release decisions on or around March 10 — known in the admissions world as "Notification Day." Day schools may notify earlier. ConnectPrep supports families through decisions, waitlists, and enrollment choices.

April 10

Enrollment Reply Deadline

Families typically have until April 10 to accept an offer and submit an enrollment deposit. ConnectPrep helps families evaluate multiple offers and make the decision that is right for their child.

Common Questions

Everything You Need to Know About Private School Admissions.

Honest, specific answers to the questions ConnectPrep hears most from families considering private and boarding school advising.

ConnectPrep's private school advising covers the full admissions cycle: school selection and list building, application strategy, essay coaching through multiple drafts, interview preparation with mock sessions, and test preparation for SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT. Every service is 1:1 and personalized to your child's academic profile, learning style, and target schools.
Ideally, families should begin 12 to 18 months before their target enrollment year. For most fall applicants, that means starting by late winter or spring of the prior year. ConnectPrep also works with families at every stage, including late-cycle applicants — but earlier engagement allows for stronger test scores, more thoughtful essays, and a broader school list.
The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) and ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) are both widely accepted at independent boarding and day schools. The SSAT is preferred by most boarding schools, while many day schools accept either. Catholic high schools typically require the HSPT or TACHS instead. ConnectPrep assesses your child's target school list and recommends which exam — or combination — makes the most strategic sense.
Yes — this is one of ConnectPrep's core areas of expertise. The team works extensively with twice-exceptional (2e) students, students with dyslexia, ADHD, processing speed differences, executive function challenges, and IEP or 504 plans. Services include adapted test preparation, accommodations documentation and advocacy, and identification of private and boarding schools with strong learning support programs.
ConnectPrep students have been accepted to Choate Rosemary Hall, The Hotchkiss School, The Taft School, Deerfield Academy, Loomis Chaffee, Lawrenceville, Berkshire School, Groton School, St. Paul's School, Milton Academy, Miss Porter's School, Kent School, Trinity-Pawling, Greens Farms Academy, Sacred Heart Greenwich, Westminster School, and others across the Northeast and nationally. The overall acceptance rate to top-choice schools is 95%.
Yes. ConnectPrep helps families navigate the financial aid process, including understanding each school's aid philosophy, completing School and Student Services (SSS) applications, and identifying scholarship opportunities. Financial aid strategy is discussed during the initial consultation and incorporated into the overall school list.
Yes. All ConnectPrep boarding school advising is available fully online. Families anywhere in the United States — or internationally — can work with ConnectPrep on applications to Phillips Exeter, Phillips Andover, Choate, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, and other top U.S. boarding schools. Online sessions are available 7 days a week and can accommodate different time zones.
Three things set ConnectPrep apart. First, advising is founder-led — Jeremy Fine with 20+ years of experience is directly involved in every engagement, not delegated to junior staff. Second, test prep and admissions advising are fully integrated under one team, eliminating coordination gaps. Third, ConnectPrep has deep specialization in students with learning differences — a significant portion of the private school applicant pool — and offers adapted preparation and accommodation advocacy that most advisory firms do not provide.
