Will your law schools accept JD-Next, and which session fits your timeline? Pick your entry year, your LSAT situation and your target schools. The planner checks each school against our verified JD-Next policy directory and shows the registration, course, exam and score dates that fit, with a dated checklist you can print.
The JD-Next course runs eight weeks online and ends with a proctored exam. Registration costs $399 at the early rate, $459 standard and $499 late (fees set by JD-Next). Scores are valid for five years.

The planner reads each school’s category from our directory, where every row links the school’s own admissions page. A school that accepts JD-Next in place of the LSAT counts as a JD-Next school. A school that accepts JD-Next only without an LSAT counts only if you have not taken the LSAT and do not plan to. Supplement only, not accepted and no posted policy all mean you should plan on the LSAT or GRE unless admissions confirms otherwise in writing. When a school’s own pages conflict, the planner tells you to confirm.
Session timing compares each JD-Next score release with your entry year. Scores that arrive by mid January of your entry year fit early and priority deadlines, and scores by mid March fit most regular deadlines. Scores that arrive from mid March through May are marked late, because they land after many schools’ deadlines. The planner never estimates your chances of admission.
As of November 1, 2026, 30 of the 68 law schools with an ABA variance accept JD-Next in place of the LSAT, and 7 more accept it only from applicants who have no LSAT score. The rest use it only as a supplement, do not accept it, or have not posted a policy. Our JD-Next policy directory links each school’s own admissions page.
For most fall 2027 applicants, the December 2026 course is the safest fit because scores arrive the week of March 8, 2027. The February 2027 course returns scores the week of May 24, 2027, which is after many priority deadlines, and some schools name it as the last session they accept. Confirm each school’s deadline.
Yes, but it changes how some schools read your file. Schools such as Cardozo, Fordham, Vanderbilt and New England Law count JD-Next only if you have no LSAT, and several others treat the LSAT as the primary score when you have one.
No. It applies each school’s published test policy to your situation and lays out verified dates. It does not estimate admission odds or scholarship outcomes.
