Casper, PREview and why they matter

Many medical schools now ask applicants to take a situational judgment test, which presents realistic scenarios and scores how you reason about professionalism, ethics and teamwork. The two in use are Casper, from Acuity Insights, and the AAMC PREview exam. They are scheduled separately from the MCAT and have their own deadlines, so it pays to know early which ones your list requires.

2026-27 cycle at a glance: 29 MD schools require Casper, 14 require PREview and 3 accept either one. No MD school requires Duet or Snapshot. Check each school’s own deadline, since some want the test taken before secondary applications are reviewed.

Exploring for future use means the AAMC lists the school as exploring PREview, but scores are not used in the 2026-27 cycle. Casper or PREview means the school requires a situational judgment test and either one satisfies it.

Do medical schools accept AP credit for prerequisites?

Many applicants used AP or IB credit to skip intro biology, chemistry or physics. Here is what 29 well known medical schools say on their own admissions pages. Most accept AP credit only if your college lists it on your transcript, and many want upper level coursework in the same subject.

Which medical schools require the AAMC PREview?

UCLA, UC Davis, WashU, Saint Louis University, George Washington, Hackensack Meridian, Kaiser Permanente, Nova Southeastern, Utah, UAB, Hawaii, UMass Chan, Minnesota and Nevada Reno require PREview for the 2027 application year. Another 14 schools, including Mayo, Howard and Geisinger, recommend it.

Can I take PREview instead of Casper?

At three schools, yes: Michigan State College of Human Medicine, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson and UT San Antonio Long require a situational judgment test and accept either Casper or PREview.

Do any medical schools require Duet or Snapshot?

No. On Acuity Insights’ 2026-27 lookup, every MD school that uses Acuity lists Casper only. No MD school lists Duet or Snapshot as required.

Does Harvard or Stanford require Casper or PREview?

No. Harvard, Stanford, UCSF, Penn, Duke, Yale, Columbia, NYU and Johns Hopkins do not require Casper or PREview for the 2026-27 cycle. Some of them are listed by the AAMC as exploring PREview for future use, but scores are not used this cycle.

Do medical schools accept AP credit for prerequisites?

It varies. Hopkins, Yale, Pitt, Georgetown, Duke, WashU and UT Southwestern accept AP credit that your college grants. Harvard, Boston University and Mount Sinai accept it only if followed by upper level coursework, and Baylor does not accept it. See the AP credit table above for 29 schools.

Is the AAMC PREview being discontinued?

As of September 2026 we found no AAMC announcement discontinuing PREview. The AAMC’s participating schools list for the 2027 application year was last updated June 12, 2026.

Casper requirements come from Acuity Insights’ official test date and school lookup for the 2026-2027 cycle (Allopathic Medicine, United States), cross checked with the TMDSAS list for Texas schools. PREview requirements come from the AAMC’s list of schools participating in the PREview exam for the 2027 application year, updated June 12, 2026. For many schools we also confirmed the policy on the school’s own admissions page. A school marked Not required does not appear as requiring either test on the official lists; confirm with the school before you apply, since requirements can change during the cycle.

AP credit policies were read on each medical school’s own admissions or prerequisite page and are linked in the table. We could not load Case Western Reserve’s admissions pages, so its AP policy is unverified.
