Westchester is a county where families quite literally buy the school district — the village line between Scarsdale and Eastchester is a real estate price chart. We’ve worked these Metro-North towns for years, and we know what changes from one stop to the next: Bronxville’s small-cohort intensity, Scarsdale’s depth at the top, Greeley’s AP culture. Local context isn’t a marketing line here; it’s the difference between a good score and the right score.

Score Context

What SAT Score Do Westchester Students Actually Need?

Unlike Connecticut, New York has no statewide SAT mandate — Westchester students choose their own testing path, and the bar at the county’s top schools is among the highest in the country. Scarsdale High School’s published profile reports a median SAT around 1440, with a large share of students above 1500. At schools like Scarsdale, Rye, Bronxville, and Horace Greeley, a score that would be excellent nationally is simply the local median — which is why score strategy here has to be calibrated to your student’s actual college list, not a national percentile.

Score RangeContextTypical Target Schools
1520+Above the top-district mediansIvy League and peer-tier universities
1440–1510Around Scarsdale’s published medianTop-25 universities
1350–1430Strong national rangeTop-50 universities, merit aid candidates
Below 1350Below top-district mediansBroad match range — significant upside from prep

Westchester students also navigate NYS Regents exams as a graduation requirement — we offer dedicated Regents prep alongside SAT/ACT and AP programs so June exam season doesn’t collide with the testing calendar.

How It Works

In-Person and Online Sessions in Westchester

Westchester is one of our two in-person home markets. Families structure programs three ways:

  • In-home sessions: tutors travel to Westchester weekly — Scarsdale, Rye, Bronxville, Larchmont, Chappaqua, Armonk, and surrounding towns — for 60–90 minute sessions.
  • Westport office: our headquarters is an easy drive from much of the county (I-95 or the Merritt), and some families prefer the focused office setting.
  • Live online: identical sessions with the same tutor via Zoom and a shared digital workspace — most Westchester families mix formats across the year.

Every test-prep program includes full-length, Bluebook-aligned digital practice SATs with question-by-question review, and plans are rebuilt every two weeks based on real data.

Common Questions

Westchester Tutoring & Admissions FAQs

Do ConnectPrep tutors travel to Westchester homes?

Yes. Our tutors make weekly trips throughout Westchester — Scarsdale, Rye, Bronxville, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Chappaqua, Armonk, Pelham, Harrison, and nearby towns. Families can also meet at our Westport, CT office or take sessions live online with the same tutor.

Which Westchester schools do your students come from?

We work with students at Scarsdale, Rye, Bronxville, Mamaroneck, Horace Greeley, Byram Hills, Harrison, and Pelham Memorial on the public side, and Hackley, Rye Country Day, The Masters School, and Iona Prep among independents. Programs are planned around each school’s AP, Regents, and athletics calendars.

What SAT score does a Scarsdale or Rye student need for Ivy League applications?

At high schools where the published median SAT is around 1440, competitive Ivy and peer-tier applicants generally need 1520 or above — admissions readers see scores in the context of the school profile. In a free consultation we’ll map your student’s baseline against their actual college list and tell you honestly what the gap is.

Do you prepare students for NYS Regents exams?

Yes. We run dedicated Regents prep in math, sciences, English, and history, and we sequence it deliberately around the SAT/ACT calendar so June Regents season doesn’t collide with a student’s testing plan.

When should a Westchester student start test prep?

October of sophomore year is the strongest start, targeting the March SAT of junior year. The most common entry is the summer before junior year for the August or October test. Because New York has no school-day SAT mandate, the testing calendar is fully yours to design — we build it backward from application deadlines.

Do you help with SHSAT, ISEE, or private school admissions from Westchester?

Yes. We prep students for the ISEE and SSAT for independent school admissions (Hackley, Rye Country Day, Masters, and Manhattan schools), the SHSAT for NYC specialized high schools, and pair testing with full admissions advising for day and boarding schools.

How is ConnectPrep different from large test-prep companies in Westchester?

Three things: every session is 1:1 with a senior tutor (we never run group classes), every program starts with a full Bluebook diagnostic rather than a generic curriculum, and test prep is integrated with college admissions strategy so the score goal matches the school list. Founder Jeremy Fine personally runs every initial consultation.

Can sessions move online during sports seasons or school breaks?

Yes, seamlessly. The same tutor runs in-home and online sessions, so nothing about the program changes when your student’s schedule does — a common need during section playoffs, exam weeks, and summer travel.
