Florida statute 1008.22 requires each district, subject to appropriation, to select the SAT, ACT or CLT and administer it districtwide to every eleventh grader, and districts must also give the PreACT, PSAT/NMSQT or CLT10 to tenth graders. Which exam your student sits is a district decision, not a family one, so the first thing we check is which test your district has chosen and when the window falls.

For 2026-27 graduates, Florida Academic Scholars, which covers 100% of tuition, requires a 1330 SAT, a 29 ACT or a 95 CLT alongside a 3.50 weighted GPA in 16 core courses and 100 service or paid work hours. Florida Medallion Scholars, at 75% of tuition, requires a 1190 SAT, a 24 ACT or an 82 CLT with a 3.00 weighted GPA and 75 service hours. Confirm current figures with the state before you plan around them, since thresholds are set annually.

Yes. Students who do not pass the grade 10 FAST ELA Reading assessment can substitute a 490 on SAT Reading and Writing or an 18 average on ACT English and Reading. Students who do not pass the Algebra 1 EOC can substitute a 420 on SAT Math or a 16 on ACT Math. These concordant scores are a floor for graduation, not a target for admissions, and we treat them as two different projects.

Cambridge AICE is a Florida phenomenon. AICE courses carry the weighted-GPA bump that counts toward Bright Futures, and the full AICE Diploma can satisfy the Florida Academic Scholars academic path, which is why entire public high schools in Broward, Palm Beach and Hillsborough have built around AICE instead of AP. We tutor both, and we help families model which load actually produces the higher Bright Futures GPA given their school’s course list.

Usually not on its own. UF’s admitted middle 50% now runs roughly 1420 to 1520, well above the 1330 Florida Academic Scholars cutoff, so a student who stops at the scholarship threshold is often below the range for the flagship. We plan those as two separate targets: clear the scholarship cliff first, then keep going if the college list requires it.

Most of our Florida students start in the spring of sophomore year or the summer before junior year, so the in-school administration lands after a full prep cycle rather than as a cold first attempt. Students carrying dual enrollment or a heavy AICE load often need an earlier start, because the spring of junior year gets crowded with EOCs, AICE exams and college coursework at the same time.

Counseling covers college list construction with acceptance probability modeling, the Common App personal statement with unlimited revisions, every supplement, activities positioning, early decision strategy, financial aid and mock interviews. For Florida families the in-state math matters more than almost anywhere: Bright Futures plus prepaid tuition can make a state university dramatically cheaper than a comparable private, and that belongs in the list strategy from the start.

Yes. Our instructors are trained in ADHD, CAPD, dyslexia and executive function support, and we handle College Board and ACT accommodations requests for you, including extended time, breaks and separate settings. We also coordinate with a school’s existing IEP or 504 team so the prep plan matches the supports already in place.

For the class of 2026, the most recent year with officially confirmed cutoffs, Florida required a Selection Index of 219. The Selection Index runs from 48 to 228 and is calculated from the PSAT/NMSQT taken in October of junior year, doubling the sum of the Reading, Writing and Language, and Math section scores. Cutoffs are set separately for every state and shift by a point or two each year, so treat 219 as a planning benchmark rather than a guarantee. Cutoffs for the class of 2027 are announced each September.

The Florida average was 970 for the class of 2025, with 87% of graduates tested. The participation rate matters more than the number. A state that tests nearly every graduate posts a much lower average than a state where only college-bound students sit the exam, so comparing raw state averages without participation is misleading. For students in the competitive districts we work with, the relevant benchmark is the admitted range at their target colleges, not the state mean.

Your district already chose for you, and that free administration is a real score. We start with whichever test your district gives, then run a diagnostic on the other one, because a student who lands mid-range on the district test sometimes clears a Bright Futures tier on the alternative. The two tests are scored differently but weighted equally by colleges, and every US college that accepts one accepts the other.
