This one might shock you. A survey by Rutgers University found a tremendous amount of academic dishonesty and outright cheating in our nation’s high schools. 24,000 students were surveyed from across the country, with over 70 schools participating. They found that 64% of students admitted to cheating on a test and 58% admitted to knowingly plagiarizing on a paper at least once in the previous 12 months. Overall, 95% of students admitted to at least some form of academic dishonesty, whether it be copying homework, looking up answers to a quiz on their phone, or any other method of cheating.

It’s not hard to understand why so many teens are cheating in school. Especially when students attend high-performance high-stress schools, there is pressure from teachers and fellow students to always do better. Oftentimes, between academics and extracurricular, a student will reach a point where they can’t prepare for that one test, or write that one essay.
